Well hello there! As the very first episode of this new podcast, I wanted to first of all say WELCOME to you and introduce myself! So listen in!
Well it’s probably no surprise – I’m Emily Osmond! You probably can’t tell from my accent that I was born and raised in England – Oxford to be exact. And lived there until I was 13 until we then moved as a family to Australia, to my mum’s hometown of Ballarat. It wasn’t quite the surfing after school and endless summers that I had imagined from Home and Away… I was very homesick and my English raised dad was also struggling. And devastatingly for us, he didn’t make it through and took his life just a few months after we moved.
I struggled through my own bouts of depression for about 10 years until I got help.Around this time I had moved back in with Mum in Ballarat, while finishing my Master of Communications. With a bit of time on my hands with all my friends living in Melbourne, I put my new knowledge and skills I was learning in my Masters into building a blog…
I have always loved interiors and homes, rearranging my bedrooms, tearing pictures out of Mum’s magazines to create lookbooks. And my interiors blog getinmyhome.com went on to be named a top interiors blog in Australia multiple times.
With journalist a key focus of my Masters, I was also picking up work across radio presenting, video presenting, writing, and I went on to be hired at the digital marketer at the local tourism organisation where I managed all things social media.
But I had a tugging feeling that I wanted to do my own thing.
This was exacerbated by my Pop who I was very close to, and spoke to most days, going into hospital.I thought “why can I only see him in my lunch break and after work?”.So… I quit my job with a new mortgage, about 3 clients, and went out on my own….
And now, I’m about four years into this wild ride of working for myself and entrepreneurship. Up until about a year ago, we were offering mostly project work – branding, websites and strategies. But I had a feeling in my gut I wanted to take things to the next level.
I knew that I loved helping people, coaching, teaching…And so almost a year ago now, I launched an online education school and community, The Modern Marketing Collective, which is now the key focus for my business.I teach women from across Australia how to grow their business with Instagram marketing, email marketing, building their brand and more.
So why this podcast?
Well I am always learning and I wanted a platform to be able to share what I’ve learnt but also, we have so many incredible people both here in Australia and overseas, who are doing their own thing and we can learn so much from them: what they’ve learnt, what’s worked but also what hasn’t worked – those not so great times that don’t make it onto Instagram.
Outside of work… well, I LOVE Staffies (we have a white family Staffie, Jazz), long blacks, Toblerone, peonies, crime podcasts, and F45 is my latest addiction.
So I hope you take a lot out of this podcast. Please let me know what you enjoy, what you’d like to hear more of by leaving a review, and also take a screenshot while you’re listening and share it to your Instagram Stories, and tag me in at www,instagram.com/emilyosmond so I can reshare and give you a shoutout.
