Seriously simplify your marketing – in two minutes flat
Do you often find yourself getting that anxious or overwhelmed feeling about your marketing?
That fear that you haven’t posted on your Instagram page recently, or that you really MUST send an email newsletter, or write an article for your blog, or share an update on LinkedIn… the list goes on.
You end up either “panic posting” – just putting something, ANYTHING, out there. Or getting too overwhelmed with it all that don’t do anything at all.
This is NOT a good place to be! And I know you know that too.
But what is good, is that by the end the exercise below, you’ll have LESS on your marketing plate. You will also be left with a list of marketing activities to focus on, that you actually enjoy and that actually bring value to your business.
So let’s dive in.
Step 1: List it out
I want you to spend 60 seconds listing all of the different forms of marketing that you are doing right now for your business on a sheet of paper.
Here’s a by no means exhaustive prompt list that may help:
LinkedIn updates
Facebook page posts
Facebook group posts (in your own free group)
Facebook group engagement (in other groups)
Instagram stories
Instagram posts
Blog posts
Email newsletters
Webinars
Free challenges
Attending trade or industry events
E books
PR interviews
Tiktok
Guest blog posts
Podcast interviews on other podcasts
Speaking at events
Publishing your own podcast
Step 2: Remove the ‘shoulds’
Next, for 30 seconds, I’d like you to cross out the things on your list that you really don’t like doing; the things you’re only doing because you feel as though you ‘should‘ – because everyone else seems to be doing them. This is your permission to stop the “should marketing” and actually focus on what you do best.
Step 3: Remove the least effective
Finally, take 30 seconds to cross out the things that you spend a lot of time doing but deep down, you know that they aren’t bringing you results. Don’t overthink this – listen to your gut. Eliminate these activities that are time suckers for you, with little to no results.
What you should be left with is a very small number of key marketing platforms/tactics that you enjoy AND that bring a return to your business.
Step 4: Refocus
Now, take this list and focus on these activities with tunnel-like vision. Learn and improve these key strategies and build on your success.
Don’t let yourself get distracted or feel like you SHOULD be marketing in more and more places. Targeted is always best. Simple!
Does this help? Have you realised that you’ve been scattering your marketing rather than getting really clear about what you actually enjoy and works for you? Can you now focus your efforts on using a small number of platforms really well?
