Today I’m sharing the five mindset shifts that have really guided me on my business journey and played a huge role in getting me to where I am now. Because as you may have learned by now, learning business and marketing strategies are just one part of the puzzle. If you don’t work on your mindset, you will find it hard to grow, struggle to feel satisfied, and continually wonder why things just aren’t working out for you.
Sometimes, the only thing holding us back is the way we talk to ourselves. If we keep up this negative self-talk, growth is going to be very hard. So take a look at five pervasive mistruths we often tell ourselves – and what we should be thinking instead.
1. They Won’t Like Me/This.
Tough talk here: Who are you building your business for? You’re not doing it to please others and keep others happy (because you won’t be able to achieve that, whatever you do!). You are building your business for YOU. Focus on what you’re here to do. Because no matter what, people will always have something to say about it!
2. I’m Not Good Enough
Admission: this is a killer for me too. But we can either tell ourselves this and wallow (not helpful I realised) – or we can recognise and accept the truth that we have experiences that are unique to us, we have a level of knowledge that is more than the people who we can help, and we have our own approach and personality to share that is completely unlike anyone else. So don’t compare, don’t tell yourself you’re not enough – realise how much you have to give…. and then start GIVING.
3. No One Cares What I Have to Say
First of all – this is simply NOT true. It is just a matter of figuring out what to share for your community. Test. Try different things and see what they love. Share what YOU love. Because when you start sharing openly with others – the know, like and trust factor (the no. 1 goal of marketing!) skyrockets, along with the number of meaningful relationships.
4. I’m not ready
I totally get that sometimes it is simply not the right time. But how often do you use this as an excuse when the reality is you are actually a little scared?! It’s self sabotage and playing it safe 101. You think you need to have, or be, or do ‘X’ first. But no one is going to come and tell you you’re ready. Grab it by the balls 😉
5. I should
Remove “should” from your vocabulary. Trust me – I highly recommend it! It’s either: “I am”, “I will” or “it is not a priority right now”. Look at the things you think you “should” be doing. If they actually really matter to you – get on and prioritise them. If not, let it go.
My word for this year is GROWTH. And so much of that is about mindset.
